Alipay+, a cross-border mobile payment and digitalisation platform under Ant International, has entered into a strategic partnership with LankaPay, Sri Lanka’s national payment network, to enable seamless digital payments for international travellers visiting Sri Lanka. This collaboration introduces Alipay+’s services to the LANKAQR ecosystem, allowing users of Alipay+ partner wallets to make payments at over 400,000 local merchants simply by scanning the LANKAQR code.
Through this partnership, Alipay+ aims to strengthen global connectivity between its partner wallet users and merchants in Sri Lanka. The integration facilitates greater interoperability, enabling tourists from 10 countries and regions—including China, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, and Italy—to use 14 Alipay+ partner wallets for everyday purchases during their stay.
Alipay+’s extensive partner network includes major e-wallets and digital payment platforms such as Alipay, AlipayHK, MPay, Hipay, GCash, Changi Pay, OCBC Digital, Touch 'n Go eWallet, MyPB by Public Bank Berhad, Naver Pay, Toss Pay, TrueMoney, BigPay, and Tinaba. These wallets can now be used by international visitors across Sri Lanka’s LANKAQR-enabled points of sale, delivering a smooth and efficient cross-border payment experience.
With tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka growing 38% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), Alipay+ is positioning itself as a key player in supporting the country’s efforts to boost tourism. Sri Lanka targets 3 million tourist arrivals and USD 5 billion in tourism-related revenue by 2025, and Alipay+ is set to be an enabler of this goal by improving digital payment convenience for inbound travellers.
By joining hands with LankaPay, Alipay+ expands its reach while offering a secure, unified, and easy-to-use payment solution for tourists and business travellers. This collaboration not only helps enhance the overall travel experience for users but also provides Sri Lankan merchants with a cost-effective solution for accepting digital payments from abroad.
